Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or Attention deficit disorder (ADD) are disorders characterized by symptoms being present in either category ;inattention or hyperactivity. These symptoms need to manifest themselves in a manner and degree which is inconsistent with the child's current developmental level.
Symptoms of Inattention:
- Careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities
- Difficulties sustaining attention in tasks or play activities
- Difficulties in listening when spoken to directly
- Failure to understand instruction
- Oppositional behavour
- Difficulties organizing tasks and activities
- Tendency to avoid tasks that require sustained mental effort
- Easily distracted by extraneous stimuli
- Forgetful in daily activities
- Symptoms of Hyperactivity:
- Fidgeting with hands or feet or struggling to remain seated
- Leaving seat in classroom or in other situations in which remaining seated is expected
- Running about or climbing excessively in situations in which it is inappropriate
- Difficulties in playing or engaging in leisure activities quietly
- Being"on the go" or acting as if "driven by a motor"
- Talking excessively
- Symptoms of Impulsivity:
- Blurting out answers before questions have been completed
- Difficulties in awaiting turn
- Interrupting others
